It is a well known fact that hair usually attracts more dirt and pollution during monsoons. But, hair experts say it is a temporary phase and can be controlled with the right treatment.
Nausheen Fathima of Schwarzkopf Professional says, "Monsoon is the time that demands a little extra time for hair care. Cleansing and proper conditioning is very essential to keep hair away from dirt and bacteria. We should also undergo frequent hair spa treatments to maintain proper hair growth and quality. Moreover, proper diet is very essential to maintain hair shine and lustre. Also, it is essential to keep your hair hydrated all the time to avoid damage."
Homemaker Toshima Mondol suggests limiting the use of excessive chemical products during the rainy season. She believes, "It is best to stick to natural products throughout the year and most importantly one should restrict the usage of chemical products during the rainy season as hair follicles are much more brittle during this time resulting in lot of hair loss. Oiling hair at night before sleep can work wonders."
She adds, "Most people like to get wet in rain once in a while, which is great fun, but it also dampen the hair so much that they look dull. I always suggest Ayurvedic products that even help you to deal with hairfall and strengthen the roots. So even as you soak your hair in the monsoon pleasures, do remember to nurture your hair."
Hair expert Jawed Habib says, "Monsoon is a pleasant season but it gets to see problems like oily scalp and roughness that makes our hair look dull and dry. In order to get the lustrous look back, I advice the use of mild shampoos and regular hair wash. Delay in wash during monsoon leads to oily scalp, excessive hair fall, dandruff and roughness. Also, one can go for short haircuts during this season as that's easy to manage."
Talking about proper shampoo selection, he adds, "I feel shampoo selection is very necessary as oily hair tends to become limp during the monsoon and requires shampoos that will give volume to the hair. Natural extracts like rosemary can give that extra bounce and vitality to limp hair. A simple home remedy can be done anytime, apply lemon juice for 15 minutes and then rinse it, this is a very effective remedy for oil free scalp."
"Use of hair products like hair gels and the practice of artificial perming and straightening should be avoided as they can lead to permanent hair damage," Jawed adds.
