Colour Correction Plays Important Role In Make-up

By: Monu Sharma, Feme Fashions Bureau, Kolkata | 13 Jan 2010

Here are the make-up tips from Abhijit Chanda, make-up artist and hair stylist since 1999. He has been a successful artist in both of the fields. 2004 was his first Lakme India Fashion Week in Mumbai.  He has also worked in various other fashion weeks, movies, filmfare awards, bridal and magazine shoots. Apart from this, he has worked with Rohit Bal, Rina Dhaka, Ritu Kumar, Ritu Beri, Zubair Kirmani and other designers. It is either for the photo shoots, fashion weeks and other events.

For Make-Up Base Routine

He believes, tone and moisturize is the golden rule of make-up. And contrary to popular belief, this one’s not just for theoretical purposes. Cleaning and toning take care of the obvious environmental dirt and also the alkaline balance of your skin. His favourites are M.A.C products.

Moisturizing has more than one advantage, not only does it helps the make-up base glide on smoothly, the act of application of the cream itself is as a mini massage for your face.

It relaxes your facial massage while lifting the face style. As a result your face looks and feels very fresh.  But be sure to remove excess moisturizer, else the foundation will not sell well.

A sunscreen based primer for the day and tinted moisturizer for the night works very well.

There are various types of foundation, for better impact use a stick foundation for concealor; it blends very well.

Finally, dust some translucent powder to lock in the base. Lightly remove any excess and your face is upright for colour, shimmer and sparkle.

Brush Basics

There are different techniques of brushing. Let it be a ethnic or modern wear the brush technique is very simple yet different.

One can take brush of various sizes depending on the style.

The eye make-up, blusher, lipper and many more looks very tempting. Make-up guru carries dozen of brushes while the touch-up session. Stylish brushes and there soft hair gives a tender yet soft touch.

Right Light

Colour correction is very important while make-up. There is apt occasion and time for right light match up. The base light makes make-up come out very well. It is lighter during weddings and fashion shows and it goes bit dark in get together and night parties.

Highlight Zone

This zone is very different usually two shades of brush is used, one with lighter shade and other goes dark. Fairer complexion is perfect for pink shade blusher whereas shades of brown goes in perfect tone with darker complexion.

The highlight is uneven nose touch-up goes dark, cheek goes light, forehead goes dark and chin goes light. It looks perfect with an uneven shade. Face looks in a highlighter manner.

Mascara Move

Look up, chin up and later mascara is applied. This helps in volumizing the lashes. The perfectly curled lash attracts one either on the ramp or any kind of event.

For lower lashes, the mascara is taken vertically.  Finally, the eyebrow comb is taken to separate any clumps.

Eye Appeal

The eye appeal is very perfect when done in a matte finish looks glamorous. There is darker shade that dominates the make-up. Basically darker shadow downplays them, this attracts any one and everyone who gives a glance towards the make-up.

A great idea is to dab some light shimmery shadow on the center of the eyelid, just above your eyeballs. The effect is simply stunning. Eyebrows play a large role in framing your face and threading or plucking them is not enough.

Luscious Lips

Opt for the natural look and top off with some clear gloss, preferably heavy in nature. Apply lip gloss with a brush and feel the difference. To make the color stay longer, apply some base on your lips while preparing your face. If the winter has made your lips dry and cracked, then apply lip balm as you begin with your face.
Go on to do your eyes and then re-apply the balm on your lips. Smooth and in near-perfect condition again, your lips will then be ready for any color, all for that sexy pout. Thick lips should avoid dark hues of lipsticks and thin lips can surely afford to experiment with many such hues.

Makeup, artist Abhijit Chanda says, “I feel the best and important part is colour correction. I believe in versatility, customized trend and style.  According to the situation I blend my expertise.”

He adds up later, “Make-up is to bring back flatness of the face. The perfect look depends on the theme and colour of an individual. These days people go for smoky look, thick kajal is applied in a carless and carefree manner. The smoky touch-up is either black or brown.

Dipanita Sharma, model and actor says, “Abhijit has done my wedding make-up. His style and colour combination is what appreciates me the most. The make-up doing by him is very natural and he blends colour very well. There are various fashion weeks that have been done by him. The best technique that everyone likes is the base light; he has very unique way of colour correction.

Kolkata based model Madhabilata says, “Make-up is an essential part of any fashion event. The artistic blend has to be very perfect to make any event successful. I prefer touch-ups by Abhijit, he lifts the face in a very natural way. The face lift is very simple.”
