Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week – A Fusion Of Ideas

By: Yogitha Ramamoorthy, Feme Fashions Bureau, Bangalore | 1 Feb 2010

The second season of Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week has come to an end. Here is a glimpse of the commonly used colors, designs, motifs, fabrics and the styling by the designers who showcased their creations in the event.

Designers used bright and vibrant colors. A lot of bridal wear was seen. Keeping that in mind the colors were vivacious enough to draw the attention. Certain designers used Indian colors like Haldi yellow, kumkum red, jamun and gulmour orange. The other colors that made a mark were red, green, purple, different hues of brown, cream, beige, pink and lavender. The color black is no more considered as inauspicious. It has been used in numerous creative ways to make it look even more fashionable, trendy,  chic and timeless like never before. Certain designers played with just two or three colors in their creation, by concentrating more on the details and styling aspects. A few accent bright colors such as red breaks the monotony of the pastel colors by giving the whole collection a new brightness. On the whole the designers used bright and vivacious colors this season.

As for the fabrics a lot of silk, sensuous chiffons and georgettes were used. Silk were used in variations such as intricate eastern silk, lightweight silk and silks of Nizami Provinces. There were soft flowing and slim silhouettes. Certain designers like Abdul Halder went a step ahead to use Italian fabrics such as Versace, Martinelli and Zegna. Textural fabrics like crushed georgette, brocade, velvets and luxe were innovatively transformed into saris, lenghas, cholis and shrugs. Leather which was early associated as the bikers costume was used along with salwars as a traditional wear creating a unique look.

The patterns, motifs and designs were used creatively making every outfit one of its kind. One can find bold western patterns while carefully considering proportions of traditionalism in it. There is a lot of detailing, both in the cuts as well as embroideries. The garments were rich in design and elegance that would sure capture the interest of any individual. Dreamy, heavy and rich embroidery work were seen in abundance as most designers concentrated on the bridal wear collection. Designers played around with kundans, polkis, gems, semi precious stones, precious stones, brooches and Swarovski to render the perfect rich look. It revealed the epitome of easy luxury as well as craftsmanship. Elements like gathers, pleats, contrasts and plaids were used to flatter the feminine form. The accessories used in each garment enhances the overall look to its maximum.

Women’s evening wear dresses, tunics, saris, lehengas, achkans, cholis, salwars, dhoti dresses, short jackets, embellished shrugs, jumpers, wedding gowns and bridal wear were the commonly displayed outfits. The styling consists of a dazzling mixture of trend & tradition and haute & prêt as designers feel that both these should be presented to display versatility in the Western, Indo -Western and Indian wear.  The outfits flirt between ‘kitsch’ and ‘glitz.’ The concept of timeless styling were seen in many outfits, that can be worn at any given time by giving the wearer the choice to dress it up or down. There were couple of garments that can be worn more than one ways. Little quirky twists were added to everyday outfits that makes every piece of clothing special and extraordinary. On the whole, most designs and styling were definitely the ‘treat for the eyes.’
