DCW Day 4: Top Designers' Pret-a-porter

By: Aditi Swain, Feme Fashions Bureau, Delhi | 24 Jul 2010

The fourth day at the Pearls Delhi Couture Week narrated the incredible collection of top designer's pret-a-porter range for Spring/Summer.

Designer Anamika Khanna's collection focused for depicting a story pushing the Indian bride and creating the Indian and ethnic wear.

The silhouettes commenced with the narration of a powerful, eclectic and edgy interpretation of Indian craft and silhouette, referencing a contemporary youth.  Sensitive to the dying heritage of Indian baroque and the dying heritage of Indian art and craft, Anamika made a point to display these in her line.

The colour palette was inspired from the hues and tints of crimson, cherry and burgundy, creating a wide arena of a range of attires more significant to corseting the Indian angarkha and creation of the sharara, liberating the Indian lehanga to a versatile international outfit, antiquating the gold and silver, pushing boundaries of the Indian sari and much more.

This very exoticism was continued by the couture line by the designer JJ Valaya. "In spirit, I like my language of couture to have a sense of history, culture and antiquity but then, I tremendously enjoy the freedom that fashion allows me when I contradict these very beliefs with something modern and new," he said.

"My collection stands testimony to similar contradictions and balance with its newfound inspiration in a fictional courtesan, 'Alika', and attempts to visually piece together her desire for true love albeit, in her dreams," Valaya adds.

This Couture Week is a very significant to the Valaya Label, creating an Indian collection as in the lehangas, jackets and corsets in the colour palette of pink and reds and blue. The collection is an attempt to reappear every season in a fresh interpretation and yet remain a favourite and highly recognisable classic from the Valaya Stable.

Fabrics such as jersey, dupion, georgette and fine velvets embrace techniques ranging from distressed foils, digital printing, appliqué, laser cutting and the fabled JJ Valaya embroideries to create a collection which attempts to provide a perfect blend of the past with cutting edge contemporary chic.

The colour story begins with ivories and eventually culminates into myriad colours in the form of the signature JJ Valaya Trousseaux collection.

The Couture Week continues to create magic in distinctive styles and takes on a trend stating an era of pret-a-porter range this fashion season!
