Today, each season is associated with colours that describe them best. Noted designers and branded stores offer colours for the season that makes you walk to perfection. Bright colours and bold designs are ‘in’ this season. Happy colours like fuschia pink, pastel shades like orange, pink, green and pale colours are the colours to go for.
“Monsoon is a perfect time to make bold fashion statements and it also offers another opportunity for fashion lovers to change their mode of dressing,” says Bangalore-based noted fashion designer Namrata G.
Elaborating on how to dress well in monsoon, she says, “Monsoon is a time to brighten and cheer up your wardrobe, be it with colourful accessories, funky t-shirts or skirts of pastel colours. So, on a funky day out, cottons, Lycra t- shirts, jersey material dresses, chiffons in a combination with of flowery designs, short chiffon dresses and cotton leggings add spunk and makes for comfortable dressing.”
“The silhouettes can range from tine dresses, tops to skirts which are not to flounce but keep up with the line of the body. The lengths normally vary from a body type, but on the whole, an average knee length or just above the knee teemed with a pair of coloured leggings would best support your monsoon spirits,” says Namrata.
While we talk of colours, clothing and accessories to go with during monsoon, you will be surprised to know that a fashionable and trendy raincoat too adds value to your style. Giving a tip on how to choose a raincoat, Namrata says, “There are fashionable and colourful raincoats available in the market. Take time to choose something really cute. Opt for cream, black and brown. To look really good in them, you should pick the ones with belts.”
When we talk of colours for casual wear, we also need to pay attention to professional attire as well. “While lime green, yellow and hot pinks are the colours to brighten dull days. Blacks/greys are good professional wear since they look smart and yet are easy to maintain in the monsoon,” says designer Arati Monappa.
“The emphasis is on Lycras and easy to care for fabrics during monsoon,” she says. “Capris, light tops and colourful rain friendly footwear are a must. Accessories are a big 'YES' - from colourful “brollies” and fluorescent gum boots/bags,” she adds.
As a designer, Monappa makes a point regarding choosing right colours for each season. “Frankly, there’s nothing called designers choosing seasonal colours. It’s more of a trend when certain colours predominate each season and everyone goes along! Whites, beige and yellow have been summer colours and will be! It’s good to have more colours in both summer and winter.”
