Starting with Kallol Datta, his collection ‘Remission’ was pretty shocking collection. The man took 3 months just to think about it but collection failed to impress audience. His collection talks about a cat as a messenger of death. He had series like Suicide, Prision Slate, Genocide and such, and audience were taken aback to see such a depressing collection.
Suicide series was created in collaboration with designer Indraneil Ram Kamath and it dealt with the psyche of a man who is about to hang himself. But since attempting suicide is a criminal offence, his next collection came in, which dealt with Prision Slate. After this his next collection came in called Genocide which spoke about confusion of human mind that grapples with the demarcation of gender.
Then it was Remission, which started with a model wearing a shocking red dress cut to create a circular silhouette caressing the ankles.
In a nutshell his collection saw progression in patters from 3D to irregular cuts. Kallol’s passion for hand finishing was clearly visible as the man had hand-sewn every garment that he showcased on the ramp.
This concept is really very strong and shocking and may hardly find any buyers. But Kallol is anxious and feels that he has just done what he actually wanted to and his friends asked him. This time his friends asked him to glam up the collection and hence he came up with this idea.
Coming to ace designer Satya Paul, the lady made her debut on the ramp. She celebrated 25th anniversary with collection called ‘Zen Zest Zip Zap and Zing’. The message of the collection is not understood by the audience as it is like understanding the ‘Zen Zest Zip Zap and Zing’.
The show opened with ravishing Mandira Bedi dressed in a colorful saree. The lady looked like a peacock. Satya is known for her elegant saris, lehengas and that’s what we got to see on the ramp but we were left disappointed as we had expected a lot more form this lady. Her collection had colorful chiffon saris, heavily embellished lehengas and anarkali dresses.
Miss India 2007 Sarah Jane wore a crimson number which had line drawing motifs in sequins and she looked very beautiful too. Actress Jacquline Fernandes was the show stopper and she looked pretty in a red ball gown. But in all Satya’s collection was a disappointment and it failed to strike a chord with the audience.
Then it was designer Anand Kabra who took over and his models were given a dark look, which made them look completely blue. His collection was inspired from Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s The Palace of Illusions and his show drew parallels with the river Krishna. The colours he used were charcoal black, electric blue, smoky greys, surprising yellows, purples and the models looked elegant in flowing kaftans, wrap around, skirts and jumpsuits.
His collection was good and audience cheered him up. As he offered something new, audiences showed up their eagerness for a a change.
