The Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS), concluded recently ay Rajmahal Palace, not only attracted jewellery merchants and consumers but also impacted tourists to plan their trip to cover the show dates.
According to organizers, tourist city Jaipur and JJS complement each other. If you feel you missed this event, you can plan for next edition, the JJS 2010, Dec 24-27.
In keeping with the times, the Jewellers of Jaipur, apart from colour gem stones, developed new designs for light weight jewellery, colour stone diamond jewellery, among others. Furthermore, Jaipur’s traditional jewellery: the Kundan Meena and silver items were liked and picked up by visitors from all over the country. As many as 27,000 visitors, comprising of stone dealers, manufacturers, exporter and consumers, witnessed the JJS. The dazzling display of the silver gold jewellery, diamond and other colour gem stones simply overwhelmed the visitors. This year, jewellers from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Israel, USA, among others participated in the event. Apart from them visitors and jewellers from France, Germany, Sweden, UK came to visit the event.
During the show eminent international and national visitors made their presence felt. Among these were the Managing Director of DTC, Varda Shine; GJEPC Chairman, Vasant Mehta; ICA Chairman, Wilson; film star, Sridevi; Union Minister, Shailja Kumari; former Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje; former Maharaja Bhawani Singh; RIICO’s Managing Director Rajendra Bhanawat; Former Chairman ICA, Julius Petsch Jr., Rajasthan Transport Minister, Brij Kishore Sharma; Mayor of Jaipur, Jyoti Khandelwal.
A special gallery of late Rajmata Gayatri Devi of Jaipur with over 200 rare photographs, which were collections of jeweller, Sudhir Kasliwal, attracted many visitors.
Inaugurating the event, Varda Shine, Managing Director of DTC, said, " India, like in other sectors, had made tremendous accomplishments in the gems and jewellery discipline. In the same vein, Jaipur could benefit by way of economic development if the diamond was focused upon. consumer will be attracted to a blend of diamond and colour stone jewellery. "
The Guest of Honour, Vasant Mehta said that Jaipur had a special affinity for the trade of gems and jewellery. He said that the GJEPC had set-up a Research & Development Centre which was training the artisans of the jewellery trade. He said that JJS had indeed become a major international G&J Show. The JJS Convenor, Vimal Chand Surana, during the inaugural function, fondly reminisced the memories of founder-convenor Rashmi Bhai Durlabhji and the frenetic growth of JJS.
The JJS Secretary, Rajiv Jain, threw light on the future vision of the JJS, while outlining the past and current efforts to give it an impetus.
The Joint Secretary, Ajay Kala, in his inimitable style, compered the function.
