Eastern India's most dazzling jewellery fair 'Sonar Sansar' was organized from 5th-8th of February at Netaji Indoor stadium was high-end fashionable event.
The leading jewellery houses and designers from all over the country, meet under one roof on this occasion. The connoisseurs of golden ornaments are delighted to find the rarest and most outstanding jewellery prepared by the best Indian artisans.
The very jewellery fair experienced many exhibitors from Pink City of Rajasthan with their creations, where maximum of them showcased 'Thewa Jewellery'. Jewellery houses like Jusra International, Raniwala jewellers, Jewel ace, Sunil jewelers, Jewel palace, Mangal gems, Deepak jewelers, Charu jewels were some of the renowned names from Jaipur.
The top draw in the show was 'Lightweight gold jewellery'. Though the name is 'Sonar Sansar', but the show included everything in jewellery to name some kundan, diamond, pearls, coloured stones. Hence, there were takers for almost everything.
The jewellers from outside Kolkata and their designs were the talking point of the exhibition.
Pankaj Parekh, chairman of the gems & jewellery export council, Eastern region says, "The dominating trend in the show includes diamond studded pieces set in gold, as well as items featuring coloured stones."
He added that women are currently opting for jewellery that is lighter in weight.
"No one likes to buy a 300 gm set anymore, instead they go for 20 gm pieces each with a lot of stones which can give the piece definite and break the monotony too." He commented.
Abhiyant Raniwala, Director Raniwala jewellers says, "We dealt with Nizam jewellery theme for ‘Sonar Sansar’. The design was dealing with a proper maharaja glam to it. The collection was generally for special occasions, weddings, Pujas, Durga puja. We had some for regular wear too. I believe Kolkata is strategic place for jewellery. Bengali crowd send good money especially for gold jewellery. Our collection was liked by one and all. There was huge rush for marriage related jewelleries, with the upcoming marriage season."
He added, "There was huge crowd to purchase jewellery for investment purpose also. Our designs dealt with pure ethnic theme. Hence, it was found very attractive."
Daksha Popat artist and homemaker from Bhutan, "I am here to check out jewellery for day-to-day wear. I normally don't get in Kolkata. But this time I came here from Bhutan for the show as well as to meet my relatives. The best I found here is the thewa necklace of Jusra International. Though it costs 8 lakhs. But the karigari is worth praising, one can buy it for some special day without a hitch."
She smiles, "You never know I might be one to buy that necklace."
