Being slim is great, and the obsession to lose weight quick will get you to be ultra-slim too, but there are also chances that you might fall prey to many eating disorders, most possibly anorexia having a bunch of complications that one would never imagine!
A latest study has revealed that those suffering from anorexia nervosa, might appear skinny, but the level of fats in their bone marrow can be strikingly high, which can lead to further complications despite minimum subcutaneous fat. MRI images have shown that the fat may be stored in the bones while the body remains deprived of energy.
The images that appear ‘yellow’ on the scan, shows less than half of the healthy ‘red marrow’. Teenage is the time when bones develop and form maximum, but the high fat levels make bone formation very low in anorexia. The hormonal changes due to extreme malnutrition make the bone marrow stop yielding the necessary cells for bone formation, and the stem cells are pushed toward fat formation.
This can lead to permanent stunted development, since adolescent years are vital when it comes to mental as well as physical development.
