Bored Being Skinny!

Kareena Kapoor has been the official size zero ambassador for India; after endorsing products in the slim size line and wearing skinny outfits baring almost all and making her loyal fans and weight watchers go green with envy.

But since a couple of months now, Kareena can be spotted with perfect curves and looking more glam than ever before!

Reportedly, Bebo is tired of being 'too thin' and wants to get in 'perfect shape'. Beau Saif Ali Khan had also said once that he's tired of dating a hanger; and so there she is...in great shape, not a little more, not a little less, supporting a healthy body image.

Scared of her 'Kapoor genes' of being a complete foodie and to put on weight, Kareena, as she prepares for 'Golmaal 3', still continues with her yoga and healthy diet regime, but says that she doesn't want to get too skinny and miss food anymore!

Hmmm...some cues again for crazy weight fanatics...

Stars & Their Dramatic Weight Loss

With everything being said and done to prevent weight-loss-freaks from following crazy fads to lose weight and get to size zero, nothing seems to be working!

Latest news to make rounds is 50 Cent's shocking weight loss of a little over 20 kgs! The rapper has admitted to almost starving himself for over nine weeks on a liquid diet and exercising on the treadmill for over three hours every day.

50 Cent has apparently reduced the weight for the role of a cancer patient in his upcoming movie.

But he's not the first to go drastic for a movie. Renee Zellweger put on a lot of weight for her Bridget Jones movies and then dropped it down quickly. Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro and many more have done the same.

Such 'yo-yo' dieting and frequent weight loss and gain can be dangerous for health with multiple effects including emotional distress, increased risk of diabetes, heart disease and hypertension.

While many follow their favourite stars, wise ones choose to consult their health expert before going for any weight loss plan.

Perfect Tone Without Size Zero!

If you think you wish to lose some weight or if your health expert has suggested so, you don't need to starve or punish yourself with any other unhealthy weight-loss ways!

Rather than following crazy diet plans and erratic exercise schedules, our very own Yoga has some asanas to help you get a toned body and that perfect look that will be envied by any size zero model!

Of the several kinds and ways to practice yoga, Asthanga Yoga is quite popular among fitness freaks, especially those who are ready for some physically demanding, rigorous exercise. Of course you need to consult a yoga expert to get guidelines on performing the asanas.

Vinyasa or Hot Yoga is another popular practice, especially among youngsters and in the West. This form of yoga is practiced in a hot room, where the person sweats a lot, almost like in a sauna bath. This is believed to burn more calories and tone your body well.

Another very popular form is Power Yoga, which is extremely popular among many Hollywood and Bollywood celebs. Power yoga incorporates traditional yoga asanas with intense cardio workout, toning the body efficiently and burning calories as well. However, expert supervision is an absolute must to avoid accidents.

Apart from the modern versions, the traditional asanas that help tone your body and lose weight, and help in spot-reduction, are Suryanamaskar, Sahaj Vyagrasana, Natarajasana and many more.

These asanas, if practiced regularly, help build strength and immunity as well.

Plus Size Models, Setting Trends For Tomorrow

This season's London Fashion Week sure set a new trend for fashionistas. The event took place a couple of months back in London, when millions all over the world watched the 'normal' looking models walk the ramp donning trendy outfits, looking not one bit less glamorous! Many media headlines termed this event - "This is what models look like when they eat!"

Is the fashion industry taking the less-trodden path? Will this set new trends on the ramp?

The models that walked the ramp for London Fashion Week looked no less stunning, in fact much better, than the regular skin-and-bones girls. Though clearly larger than an average catwalk model, the women were in no way overweight.

It was leading Canadian designer Mark Fast's unique idea to promote 'healthy' models on the ramp. With leading designers taking initiative, are we in for a new (healthy) trend?

It's high time Indian designers set similar trend too; especially since the Indian body type and Indian fashion isn't all that suitable for size zero measurements. Healthier models wearing trendy outfits, will infact make the styles more 'wearable'.

Young Stars not for Size Zero!

Kareena Kapoor's famous size zero trend that was picked on quick by at least a million youngsters striving to look like their favourite star, seems to be losing popularity now, at least among the GenNext stars.

The size zero body is not at all a favourite for Deepika Padukone and she advocates strictly against it. The ex-top-ramp model clearly spoke her mind when she walked the ramp for a show at the recently held Lakme Fashion Week.

She said that was totally against an anorexic appearing size zero figure, saying that the Indian body type is not meant for the size zero look and hence it doesn’t suit it.

Only if more young stars and 'youth icons' came forward and promoted healthy lifestyles, or at least speak against the horrid obsession!

Deepika has admitted that though she is super-slim, she isn't a size zero and doesn't wish to be one! She just takes good care of her diet and exercise routine.

Hopefully that will be picked on as quick by all young girls as was the skinny trend!

Defending Size Zero!

A recent news report said that ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has defended size zero models, questioning the discrimination against them. (Well, it's pretty understandable since Vic herself was discussed for being an anorexic.)

The girl, however, does have a point when she says that models could be skinny, curvy, size zero or plus size...they shouldn’t be talked about only because they are of a certain size. But it isn't always like that now is it?

She also says that some girls are naturally very skinny and shouldn't be labelled anorexic for that. But what when being stick thin becomes a requirement to walk the ramp? That is when it becomes scary and is discussed.

If all body shapes and sizes should be accepted and not be a topic of discussion, why aren't curvy or plus size models accepted on the ramp? After all those girls need trendy styles and fashion too, right? Something to think about!

Size Zero...Puffed-up a Bit?

A recent news article that read about psychiatrists calling for an urgent ban on the much hyped issue of size zero models and eating disorders, is something to think about.

Experts are raising voice against the promotion of unhealthy and airbrushed images of underweight models in magazines and other media, fearing the harmful effects these images can have on children and teenagers.

These frequently appearing, apparently 'glammed-up' discussions and controversies, and photographs of skinny models can have a lasting impact on the impressionable minds of youngsters who are often striving to 'fit in' the society, peers etc., whilst struggling with their own distorted image of self.

Media, often talking about a particular actress or model's weight loss, or by displaying pictures of a stick-thin celebrity, thus 'glamourising' unhealthy body image, can contribute to the spread of the 'weight loss mania' to a large extent.

Talking about eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia and unhealthy body image is important and there isn't a doubt that the awareness brought by media plays a huge role in letting the 'susceptible-age group' know of the hazardous effects of the obsession.

However, the images of pretty faces with picture perfect bodies and tabloid bits reading about some celebrity's quick weight loss or fad-diet can draw their devout fans toward the unhealthy lifestyle, more than anything else.

Go for the Easier, Quicker, Healthier

India’s very own quick-weight-loss-queen and style diva, Kareena Kapoor, has always denied the numerous rumours surrounding her size zero – orange juice diet, Atkin’s diet, skipped meals, excessive workout sessions at the gym – she rubbished all of it.

Then came out the secret – Yoga; Kareena contributed all her fitness and well-toned body to regular yoga practice, as did many before her...Rekha, Hema Malini, Shilpa Shetty, all have been ardent yoga fans, with results for all to see. It is a well-known fact that apart from her great body, yoga sessions also helped Jennifer Aniston get over her post-divorce depression.

Yoga not only strengthens your body, but also your soul, by increasing stamina, muscle tone, flexibility and much more. The best part is that yoga gives an excellent muscle tone without depending on the regular weight-training, but by using your own body weight for the exercises.

The regularised, systematic breathing exercises cleanse the body and help cure several health problems including depression, insomnia, menstrual problems, backache etc. Studies have also shown that yoga can also be a great anti-ageing therapy!

Regular yoga coupled with a disciplined lifestyle and balanced diet can definitely be your easier, quicker and healthier key to the most-sought-after body!

Whilst her yoga DVD was gaining popularity everywhere, Bipasha Basu revealed her 'hot-bod' secret to the world with her workout video! Kareena too, while being in the limelight for a skinny frame, promoted yoga and balanced meals and credited her weight loss only to that and nothing more.

What we really mean to say here is, that if you are trying to be a glam-doll by shedding weight quick, take a deep breath and appreciate the secrets that your favourite stars share.
What you must know – Fat Levels

Being slim is great, and the obsession to lose weight quick will get you to be ultra-slim too, but there are also chances that you might fall prey to many eating disorders, most possibly anorexia having a bunch of complications that one would never imagine!

A latest study has revealed that those suffering from anorexia nervosa, might appear skinny, but the level of fats in their bone marrow can be strikingly high, which can lead to further complications despite minimum subcutaneous fat. MRI images have shown that the fat may be stored in the bones while the body remains deprived of energy.

The images that appear ‘yellow’ on the scan, shows less than half of the healthy ‘red marrow’. Teenage is the time when bones develop and form maximum, but the high fat levels make bone formation very low in anorexia. The hormonal changes due to extreme malnutrition make the bone marrow stop yielding the necessary cells for bone formation, and the stem cells are pushed toward fat formation.

This can lead to permanent stunted development, since adolescent years are vital when it comes to mental as well as physical development.
