Usha: The ‘beautiful’ tradition of India!

It was a great time spent at my cousin's wedding recently. We all had great fun and enjoyed to the fullest with best of the best compliments for all the women parading at the wedding. All the gorgeous looking ladies (including me!) were in their best attire and beauty personified. It was 'Hi', 'Hello' and 'You are looking so good' – kind of compliments from the known as well as unknown faces.

As we had drowned in the compliments and attention each one of us was receiving, there walked a set of 'white beauties' - each one no less than a Hollywood celebrity. Even we dropped our jaws and stood looking at them. The bunch of young ladies - Americans, British and Japanese - had come to India to attend their friend’s wedding (my cousin).

What was so special about them was that each one of them had dressed from top to toe in the true traditional Indian style- in silk sarees, matching glass bangles, chokers, ear hangings, different hair dos (buns and braids) and sporting big bindis. Less did these beauties knew that dressing up in the traditional Indian style would enhance their looks and beauty a million times making hundreds of heads turn.

We were also surprised to see the married ones wearing mangalasutra (black beads) and toe rings. All these girls had planned well in advance to look very Indian at the wedding. "Now I know why Indian women look so graceful and beautiful in their traditional attire. I just can't believe that I look so different and graceful. I am just loving myself," Janet, an American said.

Beauty, no doubt, lies in the eye of the beholder. But, our rich tradition and culture makes any woman look beautiful and all eyes envy the beauty.

Aditi Dande: Defending Size Zero!

A recent news report said that ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has defended size zero models, questioning the discrimination against them. (Well, it's pretty understandable since Vic herself was discussed for being an anorexic.)

The girl, however, does have a point when she says that models could be skinny, curvy, size zero or plus size...they shouldn’t be talked about only because they are of a certain size. But it isn't always like that now is it?

She also says that some girls are naturally very skinny and shouldn't be labelled anorexic for that. But what when being stick thin becomes a requirement to walk the ramp? That is when it becomes scary and is discussed.

If all body shapes and sizes should be accepted and not be a topic of discussion, why aren't curvy or plus size models accepted on the ramp? After all those girls need trendy styles and fashion too, right? Something to think about!

Designer Purvi Doshi decided to call her collection as ‘Kahchindo’
which means chameleon in gujarati. Chameleon is known for changing
it’s shapes and colours whenever wanted and so her collection too had
garments changing colours at the will of the wearer.

The collection is very versatile and one can wear them inside out,
upside down and side on side. She used a lot of aari work, mirror workand had traditional Gujarati motifs to create user-friendly dresses,
long skirts and short skirts.

Purvi says, “I named my collection as 'Kahchindo' which means
chameleon in Gujarati.
Aditi Dande: Back to the Roots

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2010 is happening in full swing attended by fashion lovers from all over. And if you are of the many that are well-updated on the page 3 news and celeb pics flashing on the Internet and TV, you would know that LFW has proved yet again that we are getting back to our roots, at least when it comes to style and fashion.

Combining the most contemporary patterns and cuts with ultra earthy hues and tones with fabrics like linen, cotton, handmade fabrics...designers showcased the most chic garments in the most ethnic style.

Sabyasachi has always been known for his earthy styles, but who joined his league this season were Malini Ramani with her creations in shades of beige, browns and chocolate; Swapnil Shinde with his spring colours with dashes of dull grey, blue and yellow; Rocky S too, with his bridal collection showed his love for earthy tones that are rarely used for Indian bridal wear.

Even movie stars seem to love the new trend. Saw Vidya Balan at the 55th Filmfare Awards night? The subtle makeup coupled with earthy toned saree and the rudraksha neckpiece went just perfect together.

If it's not the actual garment, it's either the embroidery or the handwork or antique-look jewellery and accessories or the makeup...in some way or the other, earthy, ethnic fashion is catching up big time!

Monu Sharma: Mixers Midnight

An event is said to be incomplete without a party. There is always a mix bag of animals that sets the party floor and ambiance. People are seen carelessly scattered. Revellers are found busy drinking, eating, chit-chatting, dancing and what not more.....as if they have never and they shall never......Strange right!!!

The on-going 'Lakme Fashion Week' in Mumbai will experience a high-end bash in China House after the show gets over on 9th March. It will be a total star studded affair with the mix hands from the fashion as well as Bollywood industry. This concept is generally to [/I]entertain the buyers, high profile visitors, friends, show-stoppers and many others too.

Not only the fashion week, upcoming IPL season has come up with a party time for cricketers too.
Usha: Neglecting your nails? No way!

If you want to sport that killing look and project a personality that is most talked after, then you have to be dressed best from top to toe. Dressing best does not just mean wearing a gorgeous attire with befitting accessories. You also need to pay attention to every part of your body and maintain it well all times.

Clean and neatly filed nails speak a lot about the person you are. Just painting your nails with the colour of your choice will not do the trick. In the first place, the nails have to be properly groomed by filing and buffing. Make it a point to follow a regular nail care regimen like trimming, filing, buffing and moisturising the nails with nail cream and cuticle creams.

If you love getting a professional manicure and pedicure done, then head to a beauty salon to pamper your hands, feet and also your nails. From French Manicure to chocolate manicure, you have a plenty of options to choose from.

What more? You also have nail bars where you can get your nails decorated with intricate designs. Nail decoration has not only caught the fancy of college-goers and models, even you can get it done. If you haven't tried it, then you should visit the nail bar at the nearest salon once.

Most of us complain of brittle nails which crack or chip in the edges. In such cases, it is better to keep the nails short and always colour them with a good nail polish. To have healthy and strong nails, regularly consume food items that are rich in vitamin A and calcium.

So, get ready to 'nail' your overall look and personality.

Anju Gupta: Mughda and Maharani Gayatri Devi look similar?

Designer Pria Kataria Puri showcased her collection inspired from the royal Maharani Gayatri Devi from the colorful state of Rajasthan.

Her designs were very colourful with a lot of work, but it failed to impress the audiences as it was way too flashy.Actress Mughda Ghodse draped in a bridal wear in a shade of pink too could not manage to make a mark as the show stopper of the show.

Pria’s collection was no where close to the style and sophistication of Gayatri Devi’s style and dressing sense. Post show press conference had the designer talking to the media in which she told that Mugdha resembles a lot to Gayatri Devi .

The entire media guys present at the venue were shocked and these words raised quiet a few eyebrows. A few of them exchanged smiles to each other and few burst into laughing.Well Pria we know that Mugdha walked the ramp for you and we don’t doubt her talent as an actress at all.She is one of those who has a good body and can carry any dress with ease but I think comparing her with some one as beautiful and royal as Maharani Gayatri Devi is little too much .

Work hard, party harder has been the mantra of the new age people. Cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata ensure that they work to stay ahead and partying and enjoying life is equally essential for them.

Everyone looks to have good time after a week's hard work. There are perfect places to chill out till the morning b'fast. Spots like J W Marriot - Enigma, Hyatt Kalina - China house, Aurrus, Blue Frog, Tote, Getos and Olives are some of the happening ones in Mumbai. These spots are taken away by 'Bollywood stars' on Thursday's, Saturday's and Sunday's.

Vikas Nowal, Business Director (West Head) 'Navia Asia' Mumbai, is a party aholic man; he works round the clock and doesn't leave any chance to party on Saturdays. Hence, he truly believes in this mantra.

Kaizad Pardiwalla, President OgilvyOne, Mumbai doesn't believe in the mantra. Moreover, in weekends he enjoys to sit back at home and relax.

Amongst the long list we also have Marc Robinson, a perfect 'party animal'. The fashion and contestant director was recently seen at 'Privy' in Kolkata.
