Rohit Bal: Setting New Trends

By: Aditi Swain, Feme Fashions Bureau, Delhi Dt: 09/01/2010

Top designer Rohit Bal brought the curtains down on the second edition of Van Heusen India Men's Week (VHIMW), 2010 with a spectacular grand finale.

The collection - unbiased to any season - drew inspiration from a decadent India with a strong ensemble of western sensibilities.

The line simply put Gudda's signature "boys-will-be-boys" style on the runaway with an inundated raunchy energy and wicked vibes between the boys, who roamed around the park flirting with their male counterparts.

The showcase commenced with well-tailored curtains covering the gathering, the area filled with the aroma of rose petals kept in huge water cups over the ramp and a creamy white runaway floating among the boundary of a Victorian park filled ambience as the designer commenced with bowing and showcasing his collection to his audience.

Anarkalis for men, red turbans from the Thar, intricate antique silver jewellery paired with chic and contemporary jackets, handcrafted embellishments - the line had quiet moments too with black and ivory tones.

The fabrics saw extensive use of muslin, tafeeta, silk, satin, chanderi and textures like shredded chiffon, crinkled muslin, and treated leather.

The collection had the antique jamewar churridars and the silk weave kurtas creating the style statement that's uniquely 'Rohit Bal'.

Subdued embroideries, gold work and the fabric of linens, cottons and jerseys made a precise edge to the men's attire.

The colour palette had its inspiration for the burnt orange, black pastel (Chambrey) shades of green, orange and mauve...something very different for the conventional male designs.

This Spring Summer 2011 Collection from Rohit followed a hint of the Victorian ambience, collaborating style of the traditional with the contemporary.

The creations transitioning masterfully into a gorgeous melange of silhouettes in a rather unusual colour palette also had a mesh and silken touch to the felt-grain of the fabric, making a perfect appeal at the Van Heusen India Men's Fashion Week.

Actor John Abraham walking as the show stopper in a see-though, beautifully embroidered net shirt and black Jodhpurs gave a perfect end to the perfect show.
