About the designer:
Life is rocking for Abhishek Dutta. This ace designer from India is going places this year with his couture. This WLC-graduate will be off to Paris to showcase his work at Tranoi fair during March 5-8, 2009. After Tranoi, he will be busy with Wills India Fashion Week. He also has plans to launch his Portico line and a brand-new footwear line very soon.
Career Flashes:
Abhishek is now eyeing two different market segments - the European, which he is already catering to, and the Middle-East market - that's the segment he is currently eyeing. During his last Wills India Fashion Week stint in 2008, he discovered how vital it is to zero in on the Middle East buyers. He also stumbled upon the fact that almost 80% of the buyers at the previous WIFW was from the Middle East. That's the reason why you will find his designer wears trying to meet the sense and sensibilities of that huge market segment. He has used lots of embroidery work and bling to make it more appealing to them.
Abhishek made its debut in Indian fashion scenario with WIFW in 2004. But he switched to Lakme Fashion Week the following season and took part in it for four successive years. "At that point, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) were a bit apprehensive about giving me showcase slot, so I moved to LFW because it is important for a young designer to show his collection to create an impression in the minds of buyers," he explained while talking to Indo-Asian News Service.
However, he eventually returned to WIFW last season to with an aim to attract international buyers. "Glamour quotient at LFW is okay. But my priority right now is to spread my couture to the international market," Abhishek tells feme fashions
On 2009 trends:
While dissecting the ongoing fashion trend, he finds the use of metallics a rage throughout 2008. He reckons the trend is going to stay for sometime. He also finds nothing creatively appealing to him among the recent fashion trends. However, he likes the use of cuts and slanders in today's fashion wear. "Structured clothing like jackets could be the hottest fashion statement in 2009," predicts Abhishek.
But how to get that killer look? "Do mix and match with your clothing and don't stop experimenting - that's the keyword. Your experiments might fail sometimes. But, who knows you could get the right look someday though trial and error. Also keep it casual and comfortable - don't wear clothes that you aren't comfortable with," tells Abhishek in an exclusive chat with feme fashions.
