Models Are Lively with Winking, Poking, Flirting, Hugging …........

By: Anju Gupta, Feme Fashions Bureau, Mumbai Dt: 03/07/2010

Manish Malhotra showcased a beautiful collection at the second day of Lakme Fashion Week, but somewhere down the line we missed the originality in his collection. Also the glamour quotient on the show was too less. While the ‘GenNext’ designers show was quite good, and duo Sukhwant-Aastha managed to grab hearts of everyone present out there.

Staring with ace designer Manish Malhotra, he presented a very beautiful collection which was inspired from the sea side holiday resort of St Tropez. Manish played with fabrics and gave his collection a very young peppy stylish look.

He gave his models a one shoulder kurta with sparkling leggings while his collection had no space for dupattas. The designer used pastels with a hint of shading, while net as the base fabric. His collection had some beautiful anarkali kurtas, geometric designs, diaphanous kurtas, velvet borders, embroidered touches to the clothes ruled his collections.

For sexy ladies, Manish had net and chiffon saris, which were teamed with churidars while the magic he created with satin and silk in shades of old gold was a treat for the eyes. The colour palette was vibrant as usual - starting from pink to yellow to golden to beige to white to green.

For men, he had a series of bundgala collection and the trousers from his collection were comfortable for the superior sex in different textures. Pure white shirts with billowy sleeves and T-shirts in pastel coloured bundgala jackets with a variety of collars ruled his men’s collection.

Manish Malhotra always have friends like Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan amongst others to lend him a support on the ramp. But this shows had no one except some like Celina Jaitley, Raveena Tandon, Anil Thadani, Dino Morea, Urmila Matondkar and few more.

One thing which was liked by everyone on the ramp was that the models who usually walk the ramp with a very sad and grief stricken face were smiling and flirting on the ramp for Manish Malhotra.

It was a very light show with both male and female models winking, poking, flirting, hugging and passing comments on each other on the ramp.

The added attraction was at the end of the show when all the models came together on the ramp and did a jig and Manish joined them later. Audiences thoroughly enjoyed their acts and more than Manish's  clothes. It was this jig and flirting models that cheered up the audiences.

Coming to “GenNext’ designers, Sabah Khan was a little disappointing while duo Sukhwant-Aastha were a treat to watch for. Staring with Sabah, the designer got little too inspired from the slums of Dharavi.

Her collection had overdose for the poverty striken slums and this back fired for the girl. She featured a piece of slum’s story on every inch of her clothes. The tops that her models displayed had posters of the child labours, poor hungry people, rags and all.

This was not impressing and it looked an over dose of everything. Now coming to designer duo Sukhwant-Aastha, they had a raw energy which was liked by everyone presents on the sets. They had colours like black, greys, white, beige in melancholic coarse fabrics.

The collection called Auction of Humanity had fitted waistlines, bondage details on sleeves. The models highlighted their collection with belts and cowls which was a return of innocence on the ramp.
