Sanchita: Failed To take Off Show And After Effects

By: Monu Sharma, Feme Fashions Bureau, Kolkata Dt: 03/10/2010

Time changes and so the designs, the abortive planning of shows adversely affect the resources of designers. It gives them a setback with the gloom of the cancelled show. Kolkata designer Sanchita Julka feels she cannot show her designs anymore as a similar concept was showcased at ‘Lakme Fashion Week S/S’10’.

The aborted plan for the first season of Kolkata Fashion Lifestyle Week managed to get approx 40 designers from across the country. The show was supposed to be held from 24th February stands cancelled for time being. The immaturity in handling, made fashion industry suffer with almost 40 designers’ loss.

The loss of monetary stuff is secondary issue for all these designers. They get lost emotionally in the creations that have not showed up.

    Sanchita Julka

Keeping sky-scraping spirits but with some poignant feeling, Designer Sanchita Julka shares her experience and the consequence of her creativity planned for KFLW. It is not only she,  but many others too to suffer the loss of energy, time, creativity, concept...almost everything.

The designer was all set with the bunch of approx 40 costumes for the mint fresh rampage in April I.e. ‘Indian Premier London Fashion Week’. As similar concept was used by city's renowned designer ‘Sabyasachi Mukherji’ at ‘Lakme Fashion Week’, she feels more distressed.

Though, Sanchita doesn’t feel anxious about the creativity of the designer. But, she confirms her design would have surely taken hearts of each one present in the first season of KFLW. But, unfortunately the show had not happened as planned.

       Real creations from Sanchitha Julka

Though Sanchita does not say Sabyasachi Mukherji copied her designs, she says there were some similarities. They include low back, bastir’s, bra, strings and many more in shirts, kurtis, tunics and blouses. With these features common with the designs Sanchita had prepared for the KFLW and the designs Sabya showcased in the first day of LFW, she feels she cannot present them anymore in any other venue.

Sanchita explains, “I had prepared a beautiful set of costumes for the KFLW. My theme ‘Guns and Roses’ was a long time preparation. End of the day, the unorganized shows hamper our schedule as well as creativity from all possible ways. Our great enthusiasm gets in vain. My collection guns and roses consist of lot of low back dresses and shirts with blend of strings. I have used lot of bastirs with colossal U and V shape back cut.”

She adds up with an incomplete smile, “After all, the good work that we prepare to showcase for some particular event and for the season gets hampered. Well, I respect Sabyasachi he is pretty well renowned designer with lot of talent. His creativity stands complete after the global research. In a way, I am happy that my concept is globally in. No matter, I had designed for the local market this time. It is just that my designed costumes do have market and good clientele but not rampage. After LFW, it makes no sense for me to showcase this stuff and theme elsewhere.”

                  Fashion designer Sanchita Julka

Vikas Julka says, “Even if the show comes back, we cannot use the same stuff. Fashion industry is very dynamic, each day a new concept and new line come in. The initial effect remains on the emotions, the continuous involvement of many a thing with a collection or a theme makes one depress if there comes no result; which I feel is genuine from all respect. Designers’ effort and good inspiration stands nowhere after such a mishandled show.”

He adds up, "Hence, we are not looking out for any shows currently. As our store and existing prêt line was very much neglected for more than a month. Our concentration is currently on the tag line. Let the IPL fashion week move one this year. May be we join the coming year."

SANCHITA'S GUNS AND ROSES

The collection justifies loose and comfort fit with fluid essence.

‘Guns and roses’ consist of blend of black n white with pastel shades like pink, yellow, peach and red with embroidery. The collection gives a sexy yet trendy and comfortable feel. Keeping in mind the shooting summer season, soft and sheer natural fabric has been used. There are lot of shirts, tops, kurtis, pants, sharara, hot pants, skirts and many more

The uniqueness of the collection remains summer jackets and soft satin trousers which is hard to find elsewhere. The detailing on attire with low back line, bastirs, strings etc makes it very classy and fashionable. The designs and flowy fabric gives a comfortable yet stylish effect.

"I have used lot of detailing in this collection through box pleat and inverted pleat. There are handloom embroidered costumes with straight and structured lines. My creation also consists of summer wedding lehengas."

These are very light yet embroidered ones; one can wear it for cocktail party, wedding ceremony etc. The lehenga stands as modern Indian skirt.  Instead huge elaborated dupattas I have created the simple ones with neck accessory,” says the designer who seems to be busy with her tagline ‘Fikshion’.
