Almost all socialites and glam-dolls carry them; they are the hot favourite of any fashion conscious woman of today. They are an absolute must today if you wish you look chic and make a style statement. Clutches rule the accessory world today, and women of all ages and walks of life have at least a couple of clutches that will be a foil for an average outfit or complement a great one!
Now after leather, silk and other materials, its metal that has become quite popular among bag designers and fashionistas alike. Clutches with metal embellishments, studs, buttons, trimmings, clasps and even complete metal body can be found on the streets for the ones who do not wish to spend a fortune. But for those who don't mind shelling-out a lot on fashion accessories, designers and reputed labels have come up with like a million options.
Bag designer Carina Advani of 'Nautanki by Carina', who's forte is clutch designing and uses metal off-and-on in her trendy creations, says that metal embellishments is the most popular in clutches these days. "Metal clutches spell 'status' and are super expensive; many celebs can be seen carrying them." She adds that metal clutches by Alexander McQueen, Judith Leiber and labels like Miu Miu, Chloe, Dior, YSL and the likes can start from the range of Rs 15000 to Rs 20000 and above and therefore aren't commonly seen.
"Swarovski makes ultra chic ones that can go up to Rs 60000 too! International names mean having to shell out a fortune," she says. But what's a little expense when it comes to looking stylish, right? At least that's what many from the elite circle seem to believe.
Malaga and Meera Mahadevia are two of the popular names in the country when it comes to such chic clutches. Indian designer Suneet Varma recently teamed up with Judith Leiber to come-up with the classic 'Suneet Varma Starburst Collection' that simply stuns. Though tagged at a pricey $3000 and above, Suneet has won quite some admirers even in the US, by using the traditional Indian 'Bidri' artwork and Swarovski crystals.
Giving more info about this latest trend, Carina shares that McQueen clutches have more of the abstract and gothic element to his designs; like a crystal skull, metal chains and clasps etc, making it a quite bold pick for the women of today.
"If you observe the high-end Indian social scene today, Page 3 regulars can be seen carrying clutches in shapes of flowers, balls and even birds like peacocks, parrots, owls etc! Though they hardly serve the purpose of carrying anything in them, they look uber chic with the stones and crystals and metal rims," she notes.
But you need not worry about spending a month's salary on clutches! Drop in popular street markets and clutches with metal work can be found easy and with incredible pricing too!
