'Haute Couture Rocks In Kolkata'

By: Monu Sharma, Feme Fashions Bureau, Kolkata | 1 Sep 2010

Kolkata will get to see the first ever couture week with Kolkata Fashion Couture Week (KFCW) by the organisers of Indian Premier London Fashion Week, the first-ever show for Indian designers in London.

It was in May 2010 that Idea Weavers came-up with the first season of IPLFW. Hence, the first season KCFW will be in-line their second show.

Idea Weavers now brings Gitanjali Lifestyle Kolkata Couture Fashion Week. After the successful show in London we will get to see the Kolkata show. The first season of the KCFW is all set to showcase the couture collection for 2010. Inspite of the initial glitches and number of postponements, the show went on in a balanced lick.

The man behind the IPLFW and KCFWVivek Agarwal, chief event coordinator of Idea Weavers puts-in-the-picture to Feme Fashions about all that had happened in the last show and all that is yet to happen in the mint-fresh show.

Vivek Agarwal as chief event coordinator of Idea Weavers…how and when did it start?

This is just a new-born firm brought-in existence last year by me. We at Idea Weavers believe that Indian designers are as creative and talented as International designers. Moreover, there is competing edge about the Indian culture and inspirational designs. Keeping the over-all fashion scenario in-mind, we came-up with a show for Indian designers in London with IPLFW. Though some initial glitches were there…but then 'all is well that ends well'.

You said, 'initial glitches were there'...could you please elaborate?

Like everyone knows that IPLFW was postponed number of times. Firstly, I would clarify that to start-off a event is not a joke. There are many-a things involved and also inter-connected, its like if one goes wrong and incomplete the series continuous. A standard mass should understand the stage of failure. End of the day what stands important is that, once declared about an event like fashion show where many prestigious heads are involved; the show must go-on and so, IPLFW did happen.

The show did happen, but then whom do you think helped and cooperated a lot to make it a huge success?

I must say Narendra Kumar and Neeta Lulla helped me a lot. I thank them for everything they did.

Can we hear some reasons for number of postponement of IPLFW?

Basically, this was a fashion show for Indian designers in London. Hence, to get good number of sponsors in London was a difficult task. On that, the first season of the event kept people skeptical about its outcome, there were apprehension in people’s mind about London platform. Moreover, we should understand the need for urgency. Also, there was visa problem many-a times. Inspite of a valid invitation by me to the respective designers, the visa was not confirmed on time. And I was updated before two weeks that designers did not apply for visas. Nonetheless, the postponement glitches for whatsoever reason makes the organizer in a complete bad state, some what the trust evades.

Kolkata Couture Week
KCFW is the talk of the town these days. When did it strike in your mind to get in something like this to Kolkata?

Well, we planned this as and when IPLFW got over. Keeping in mind the urge for Couture, we thought it will rock in Kolkata. We just have a simple idea in mind that we need to establish new designers. Its like, the origin of Idea Weavers is Kolkata so what better than getting a event in our own city.

What is the schedule for this?

The designers schedule will be updated on web shortly. KCFW will happen from September 9-12 at Swissotel Kolkata.

What do you feel about the success of KCFW despite the delay and cancellation by other fashion week organizers of Kolkata?

As of now, the first season of KCFW will definitely happen that too in a bigger, better and a grand approach. We are not competing with the other companies. That was their event and their decision and so this is mine. I am sure couture will rock in Kolkata, there is a big and good market for this.

What do you feel about its sustainability?

We ensure it will definitely sustain. Designers have a ready couture market. This is a good season to invest and to earn, we have Wedding, Durga Puja, Diwali coming neck-to-neck so people will look out for more and more couture than prêt.

Tell us some unique features about the bridal bliss in KCFW...

The most attractive and unique part of KCFW is 'the set'. The set is pretty attractive and mystique, 30 feet long, 12 feet wide and 12 feet high. It will be so very lavish, there will be natural striking wallpapers which will be interchangeable.

Any message for our fashion conscious readers?

Definitely! I would love to say whoever have marriages in their family and want to know everything to do with the styling and the latest trends this season. KCFW is a perfect event to come with couture collection for 2010.
