Being from an army background Shivalika was fond of glamour world since childhood. She was first crowned in 2000 for Diwali Princess in an Army Ball, Pune. It was certainly a big day for her.
Her keen interest in field of drama, fashion and glam made her a perfect drama queen. She started performing in theatre dramas as well as acting in state and national level shows.
Pune happened to be the lucky charm for her. The city bestowed her with many awards, crowns etc. After all the respect and love in Pune, Shivalika moved on track in
modelling in 2004. A fresh graduate MCA student was overwhelmed with limelight of glamour. Just because of her supporting parents she was allowed to do anything in her career but nothing against studies. Hence, education was equally important with her profession.
Moving into flashback, six years ago, Shivalika Sharma explains, "When I came into modelling in 2004, there was nothing that I could find as help from right to left. It was just a normal moving life with neither the Internet nor any modelling academy or counseling center to train or guide us." She adds up detailing, "It was a pleasant moment for me but, just my knowledge was the mode to get through any stage of modelling. Either be a photo shoot or walking on ramp. With 'Miss India' pageant auditions, I was held up in a speechless state of life, where no way I could get the guidance on; how and what to talk? What to wear and when? How to walk? And many other things were fiddling in my mind."
"I just crossed my fingers and went on normally getting my pictures clicked in a studio. I was unaware about the selection criteria and the division of rounds in the beauty pageant. After my selection, I was doing whatever I was asked to. But, it was truly a dream come true, when I got through into the final round. I was overwhelmed and excited too. It was just as if a kid is thrown into beautiful woman," says the Miss India 2004 finalist.
It is unbelievable for all of us that Shivalika weighed 80 kilos before Miss India beauty pageant. It took her 24 months to get down the figure to somewhere near 50 kilos.
She adds up, "Yeah, its true I weighed 80 kilos before coming to Mumbai for Miss India pageant. It took me two long years to maintain myself in their criteria. It was nothing hard for me. I never believed in crash diet, just proper diet with work and jog was enough. I used to walk 8 kms daily without fail. This experience helped me with more inspiration on, how to loose weight?"
Striving into the modelling career, Shivalika became part of the 'Balaji Reality Actor Hunt' in 2004. Wherein, she was selected to act in their soap. Later, this year she ended up with four shows in 'Balaji Telefilms'. "2004 was a turning point in my life. My Mumbai experience was an excellent affair. I learnt what I could not elsewhere. My modelling and acting experience was all smiles. It was a merry time, I ever had. I got self-dependent with no appalling moment in my life ever."
After few years break and marital bliss, Shivalika was back on ramp for 'Gladrags Mrs India 2009' pageant. Her experience and hard work made her crowned second runner-up and 'Miss photogenic' in the contest.
Keeping high spirits Shivalika says, "It was a blissful moment to get through the Mrs India pageant. I found attraction, make-up and costume were the foremost one to be notices especially with 'Show on air', people starts recognising you." She adds, "After this contest, I started receiving number of calls from other models and aspirants. It was then I realised of helping and sharing my experience through TMA, my aim to start this academy was to share my experience and give them knowledge that I couldn't get in my career."
She signs off saying, "Figuring schedule is very important for any model. Walk, talk, confidence, beauty, brain etc can never be common in any two person, there has to be a difference in ability. Now, one can get through many a place to rest assured for the beauty pageant training. To make up with the important heads in modelling, 'Time is a perfect teacher'."
She believes modelling is a dynamic profession. One has to be in to-tone with costumes, costume with correct pose, make-up, walk, talk and many more stuff. It is unfold of surprises. During beauty pageant selection, a model can be called-in any point of time with a particular costume or can be asked to speak upon anything. Hence with beauty, knowledge too is very important.
Shivalika Sharma has also walked ramp for Ritu Kumar and Narendra Kumar. Soon, we might see her on fashion week ramp again. Her next move is to experience the rampage of the biggie event in Mumbai 'Lakme Fashion Week A/W' in October.
