Valentine's Day is a day that everyone celebrates irrespective of caste, creed or nationality. It's only getting colourful as the years go by!
As for the general norm, the colour red depicts that you are dating and unavailable; colour green reveals you are single and ready to mingle; yellow reveals that no matter what, you are ready to party hard! These little things are generally a lot of fun, especially when invited for parties. They create eagerness and it's also quite exciting to see how many will essentially fake their status.
There are designers who are presenting an entire Valentine's collection with colours depicting romance and love. For instance, red stands for passionate love, pink is more on the innocent side, yellow kindles the fire within and so on.
Satkrit Krishna, who will be showcasing his creation at Le Meridien, Chennai, for Valentine's Day says, "My clothes are soft, very feminine, elegant and flowing. The colours involve shades of pastels, off-white, baby-pink and amber. I have worked on an entire line that is in par with the mood of day. To make it more exciting I have my own friends walking the ramp for me."
Designer Tejaswani says, "Red is a universally appealing colour. It is not only the colour of love but also quite flattering to entice your valentine. Wear a red dress, as it is timeless and its the apt colour for the day. However, if you feel red is too bold, you can go for an accessory like a colourful red stole, red bag or red stilettos. Apart from red, colours like pink and white are also quite happening and fresh for the day. White dresses with floral prints in red or pink are quite feminine. Jeans with a trendy top is also fine, but feminine clothes are great for girls on such a day. Pair it with a cool pair of stilettos and you are done."
Designer Pooja Shah says, "Party colours like purple and black are also the perfect choice for the occasion. You can play around with accessories like trendy belts, watches, chains and bracelets to add to your style statement. But remember, while choosing accessories choose one attention grabbing piece and keep the rest minimal. And, if you are on a first date avoid revealing clothes." Pooja adds that men can either opt for semi-formal or casual clothes. She says, "Semi-formal would be jeans with a formal shirt and for a casual date jeans with a layered tee or polo shirt can do the trick. Avoid being too casual and keep accessories to the minimum. You sure don't want a competition with our date, do you?"
Amiela, a beautician from Lakme Beauty Salon says, "Hairstyle and make-up should relate to the time and ambience. During the day wear natural shades - keep the eyes fresh and sparkling while the lips should have a glossy finish that is soft and kissable. For the evening look, the eyes should do the talking. Highlight your eyes with colours that are more alluring. Bright shades of nail paints are very much in."
"Finally, go for the best perfume that defines you the best. It's just enough to mesmerise your partner," signs off Amiela.
