Valentine's Day is a day when attractive gifts are exchanged between lovers, and anything in the shape of heart takes centre stage. Gift shops and fancy stores in the city have displayed a variety of gift items too woo their customers.
What's catching one's eye are the hearts made of fur, like the stuffed toys. From small ones, which can be used as a purse, to huge ones that can be used as a pillow, they are available in various sizes. But going by what shop owners say, unlike previous years, their business has come down drastically this year with a majority refraining from giving gifts during Valentine's Day. Sounds strange!
Sharada Fancy and Gift Centre in Rajajinagar, Bangalore, is one such shop which has the latest and best gifts for Valentine's Day. Fur hearts are a special attraction at this shop. However, this season has not promised good business here. Shantharaj N, owner of the shop, is a worried man as his business has been hit this year. "I am not even seeing 10 per cent of the sales against the previous year. E-cards and text messages have made life more simple and easy. The idea of gifting is going down year on year," he points out. The fur hearts displayed at his shop are so adorable that you would want to have it for yourself than gifting it to anybody. "All the products are from Delhi. The rates of these hearts depend upon the quality of the fur used. From Rs. 100 to 2,000, we have different varieties and sizes," Shantharaj adds.
While lovers around us are liberally spending on beauty salons and spas, parties and dinner, is gifting slowly taking a back seat? However, there are some who still want to say it differently. Candles seem to be making an impact. Soumya, who is into making designer candles says, "I have received lot of orders for paraffin as well as gel candles which are in the shape of heart. Candles create a different feeling."
There are many like Sreenath, a college professor, who has been celebrating Valentine’s Day for the last five years. "Seeing the youngsters enjoy Valentine's Day with such fervour, I too started celebrating it. It is a nice feeling to fall in love with your wife all over again. I make it a point to gift her something unique and precious every Valentine's Day. This year, I have picked up a gold pendant for her while a greeting card with two hearts will accompany this gift."
Gifts or no gifts, celebrate this Valentine’s Day by sharing the feelings of your heart because your heart knows the value of your love than anything else.
