A Fedora is a felt hat that is creased lengthwise (in the center) and pinched in the front and both sides. The term 'Fedora' was used as early as the 18th century. It was a man's accessory in the beginning and slowly gained access into the woman's world. It is now popular among the fairer sex and been used everywhere, from a casual evening out to the red carpet entry. These hats are quite flexible and can even be rolled off when not in use. It brings in an inexplicable ritzy look to the wearer, and has always been associated with a dramatic style statement.
There have however been numerous variations from what it was in the 18th century. In modern times, there are varied ones right from the sleek and light designs to the classic chic ones. Primarily, the hats used to be in monotone shades and in modern times it is sold in jazzy colors like orange, petrol blue, lilac, green, yellow, shocking red etc. To add some variation they even come in plaids and pin stripes.
Model Anoop Kumar says, "Its flexibility allows it to be reshaped to suit your tastes. They are light weight and look so refined. In few western countries, it is worn as marks of respect to meet a woman." They are widely adorned by the celebrities. Legendary icons like Michael Jackson popularised the style of fedora hats to a great extent.
City-based model Shruti Appu says, "Hats are amazing accessories to make up for a bad hair day and something like fedora hats can up your style quotient instantly. It comes in different colors; however shades of black, brown, grey and tan are the most popular ones. If you are looking at fedora hats as an integral part of your wardrobe, do opt for neutral shades. To add a personal touch, adorn it with a brightly colored ribbon or even a brooch can be a great option. The best part is that it can be teamed with both causal and formal attires."
Apart from it being a great accessory, it is also serves the purpose of protecting your face from the harmful rays of the sun. However, one needs to know how to wear the hat well and must have the attitude to carry it off.
Stylist Anupama Dev says, "Fedora hats are great accessories. However, it needs to be teamed well to avoid fashion disasters. There should be a balance. For instance, if you are wearing colorful attire, opt for a plain hat and vice versa. The monotone dressing is also great - black hat teamed with a black dress or a black jean can do wonders."
The main aspect is to look for one that fits your personality. It should frame your face well and bring in the oomph factor. "It even goes well with a swim suit, provided one has the personality to carry the look. It should bring in the boldness on the wearers face," signs off Anupama.
