From Salman Khan to Abhishek Bachchan to Ranbir Kapoor...they have all sported this absolute fashion must-have; and Himesh Reshammiya has taken it to a new level altogether! Yes...we talk about the most vital style accessory for guys and often gals too – caps.
It’s not just film stars and celebrities, but honestly...we all love them; be it skull caps for religious reasons or rough and tough caps for the outdoors to beat the heat, this piece of easy-wear accessory has ruled the markets since time immemorial. There probably isn’t a single market street or mall or flea market in any city big or small, that doesn’t sell caps and they always find someone in need of at least one cap.
Stylist Nafisa Poonawala says that shopping for caps is not just for going on camps, treks or other outdoor activities, but college students love to sport trendy caps everywhere from the streets, college campus to the canteen and they look quite chic. “Even girls pick nice pastel coloured skull caps or bandana caps with casual college wear, and they look particularly good with cotton pants and tops,” she says, adding that one should however be careful as caps can look out of the place with formal wear.
Given the heat that’s struck all the country caps definitely come with a certain amount of relief for all and those with a keen fashion sense know how to make the most of what’s available and necessary. MBA student Kajal Rane says that she has got cotton summer caps from a flea market in Mumbai for unbelievably cheap rates and plans to wear them all trough the hot season.
“For winter, I had got knitted woollen caps in 6-7 shades to go with jeans, cotton pants and skirts,” says the young trendsetter. She also feels that guys look great in fancy leather or denim caps. Designer Parul Shah adds her insight to this that as the styles and ways of wearing caps has changed over the years, so have the materials and weaves. “They come in incredible patterns, designs and materials too, offering a wide variety in all price ranges. Felt, leather, denim, cotton, silk...the variety is huge!” she shares. She notes the interesting fact that many patterns are making a blast from the past.
Though some patterns aren’t really worn by many on the streets, they still remain a hot favourite on the screen. Take for example Rajesh Khanna’s favourite ‘newspaper boy from the 1930s’ cap often worn with leather jackets became a top style statement in the 1960s and 70s as did Feroz Khan’s favourite cowboy hat, which can be seen worn by even stars of today like Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar etc. “Cowboy hats even look quite chic even worn by girls at theme parties or in the scorching sun paired with boots and leather or cotton jackets.
Caps can never go out of style nor can they make a comeback probably because they will always be there...adding style to trend savvy girls and guys all over the world.
